Seafood Industry Australia (SIA), the national peak-body representing the Australian seafood industry, is delighted Martin Exel has been appointed head of Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS), a global initiative that will lead a transformation towards sustainable seafood production and a healthy ocean.
“This is fantastic news for the international seafood industry and testament to the quality of people and businesses we have in the Australian seafood industry,” SIA CEO Jane Lovell said.
“Martin is the General Manager at one of our largest, trailblazing members, Austral Fisheries and we are proud one of our own will be steering the international agenda around key issues such as sustainability and ocean health.
“Martin is well-equipped to strengthen SeaBOS’s aims to improve connections between sectors of our industry and linkages to the scientific community. His role in making Austral the first carbon neutral seafood business in the world is a clear example of his, and Austral’s, determination to walk the talk when it comes to sustainable and responsible seafood production.
“SeaBOS brings together ten of the world’s largest commercial seafood companies who produce around ten per cent of the world’s seafood supply. That’s a very powerful group who can make real, lasting, impactful changes to the way we do business.
“We all have a vital role to play in protecting our industry and environment so we can put healthy, nutritious seafood on the table now and for generations to come. This appointment provides further opportunities for our industry to implement positive changes.”
